2 years +plus of cherrybobm

july 23, 2026

keeping in line with the tradition that has happened only once before this, i am late to the anniversary of the site. except this time it was to cherrybobm as a whole

i am a little surprised it's already been 2 years since i made that bitview account (bitview please come back please). 'doesn't feel that long' and anything else you frequently hear at this sort of thing. but i am also surprised at how little has happened over time. probably due to the lack of anything on here

a number of things have happened that i could have posted about. but i chose not to because i was doing such things as spending hours in voice calls with friends. so this post will also serve as a general update sort of thing. starting off with the biggest one

i bought an old imac

nothing too big. i was visiting my aunt in monterey and since it was far away enough from where i live, i decided to go thrifting and on the first store i went to it was right there. complete with mouse and keyboard all for $55

ignore the bag of chips. my house has had a mold problem downstairs for a while now and we're waiting for the all clear

it was a mid-2011 21.5 inch one. i got lucky because it was the last one to have both a superdrive and firewire 800. it is also my first computer to have the latter. unfortunately it is also the last computer to require a dvd in order to install windows through bootcamp and i have no blank dvds on hand

the box on top of it was for an external dvd drive i bought at a different thrift store on that trip. now i can burn stuff without having to go into a separate room where my old gateway tower resides. no i was not switching rooms so i could be closer to it and no i was not moving it to my room because my room is very very small while my brothers got the big ones

right now it runs mavericks and sierra. not sure what i'm gonna do on sierra. if i can get a ram and maybe ssd upgrade i'll do something with opencore legacy patcher but for now since it has the stock 4gb it's sticking with those. i used to have lion installed but qbittorrent didn't want to play nice so i upgraded

'but wait. what about my precious powerbook g4?' the guy i made up just now asked. good question

i did try using it as a dvd player. unfortunately the battery that runs out in 20 minutes on a good day is not equipped to handle such a task for pretty much any amount of time. i also tried using it as an itunes machine. this was made a great experience by the fact that before itunes 7 you had to have a small gap between songs. plus transferring music from another computer will be especially fast with usb 1.1 speeds and over the network at 150kb/s speeds

however i did get a firewire ipod. the 4th gen photo. can't use it for moving stuff though because i still don't have a firewire 400 cable

my aunt said she found it but i think she bought it instead. i was hoping to actually use it, but it too suffers from the gap problem. still my favorite looking ipod though

there is a bit of a silver lining. it is still my only mac os 9 machine. probably the one thing it has over the imac is that it can run plenty a powerpc app. theoretically i could install snow leopard on the imac since it came out before lion released but i've tried and no dice. ok onto the next 'big' thing

had a tooth pulled out

it started randomly hurting one day around 2 months ago. then it went away for a few hours before returning. then it came back a lot worse

my mom was busy in seattle during this time because my brother was tragically found alive during his first year graduation at university of washington and it was her job to bring him home. i looked around for anything to make it stop hurting and i eventually found out there was a special type of listerine that was exactly what i needed. so i called my uncle and asked him to buy it and bring it over

he was at work so he had a friend do it instead. i took it way more than what it said to take on the bottle. all it really did was make it feel different. it also made it hurt slightly less so for me it did the trick. the next day my mom came back and she had some stuff in really boring small boxes that was supposed to help. when mixed together it looked like apple juice, which famously looks like pee. sadly it tasted closer to pee. but hey it actually stopped the pain for a few hours before i had to take it again

this goes on for a bit until eventually the pain gradually fades away. i was grateful it was finally stopping until i had to see the doctor a couple times. nothing important happens the first few appointments but they all led up to me getting a tooth extraction and a bone graft. i got put under anesthesia which lasted a couple hours after i woke up. they gave my mom a bag of gauze to stop the bleeding from the area but she only ever ended up using 2 or 3 of them when i was still drooling

they also gave her a toothbrush with softer bristles so i could still brush the area they had to stitch together while i was asleep. for the next few weeks i lived entirely off of vanilla yogurt and strawberry banana yogurt drinks. eventually i tried eating other things that i ate before it all happened and i realized it wasn't so bad. later i had to get a mold of my bottom teeth made so i could get a retainer. and after that i had the stitches removed. it started bleeding when i brushed the area with the pulled tooth but after a few days it stopped

so that's the two main things that have happened to me recently. but there are two other things that hopefully if i'm not lazy should be coming to the site soon:

i'll get around to the iweb page that i promised a few months ago. it should actually be a better time to do it now because i can use iweb 3 as opposed to iweb 1

this one won't affect you as much as it'll affect me but i'm gonna try to set it up so that when i create a new page it uses the site layout as a template. basically i create a page and all i have to do is write what i normally write then be done with it

before i end this post i wanted to share something that i thought was somewhat cool. i made a second testpage for the setup i just mentioned and neocities kept the preview image from before i deleted the first second testpage. don't worry i can't read anything past 'welcome to my soon to be' and ' but decent thing' either

ok bye
